Kasymzhanov A. K.

Kasymzhanov Agyn Khayrullovich (1931 – 2000)
       Soviet and Kazakh philosopher. Doctor of Philosophy, professor, corresponding member of NAS RK. The developer of the theoretical problems of the history of philosophical thought and the legacy of al-Farabi.

In 1954 he graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy of Kazakh State University.

In 1962-1977, he was an assistant professor and head of the department of the history of philosophical thought in Kazakhstan and the study of the work of al-Farabi at the Institute of Philosophy and Law of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR.

In 1969 at the Institute of Philosophy of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, he defended his thesis for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy on the topic “The Logical Aspect of the History of Dialectics: (Based on V. I. Lenin’s Philosophical Notebooks)”.

In 1970 he was awarded the academic title of professor. In the same year he was elected a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR.

In 1977-1983 – Director of the Institute for Advanced Studies of Teachers of KazSU.

Since 1993 – Director of the Al-Farabi Center and Head of the Department of Philosophy and Methodology of Social Cognition at Kazakh State University.

Editor and compiler of a number of publications of al-Farabi’s works in Russian and Kazakh (Philosophical Treatises, Socio-Ethical Treatises, Logical Treatises)
