The Institute of Philosophy, Political Science and Religious Studies of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan
The Institute of Philosophy, Political Science and Religious Studies of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan was created on the basis of the Institute of Philosophy and Law, established in 1958. The main task of the Institute is to conduct philosophical-worldview, philosophical-methodological, political, religious and sociological studies.

In the 70s of the last century at the Institute of Philosophy under the guidance of Professor A.Kh. Kasymzhanov created a center for the study of the heritage of al-Farabi. The center unites such prominent philosophers and scientists as A. Mashani, M. Burabaev, E. Kharenko, K. Tajikova, B. Osherovich, B. Taizhanova and A. Kubesov. Russian scientists made a great contribution to the formation and development of Kazakhstan’s farabi studies: Academician B.G. Gafurov, widely known doctors of sciences S.N. Grigoryan and B.A. Rosenfeld, candidate of philosophical sciences A.V. Sagadeev and others.

As a result of extensive and fruitful research work, a series of al-Farabi treatises were prepared for publication: Philosophical Treatises, Socio-Ethical Treatises, Logical Treatises, Mathematical Treatises, Comments to Ptolemy’s Almagest, About reason and science”, “Historical and philosophical treatises”, “Natural science treatises”,“Treatises on music and poetry”.

Nowadays the Institute of Philosophy, Political Science and Religious Studies continues to actively work on the translation, publication, study and scientific commentary of the works of al-Farabi. Under «the Cultural Heritage program», the Institute has published the collected works of Aristotle of the East – al-Farabi (10 volumes), «World Philosophical Heritage» (20 volumes), and «Philosophical Heritage of the Kazakh People» (20 volumes). According to the basic research programs of the National Academy of Science of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, collective monographs of the Institute’s scientific staff were published: “Al-Farabi Philosophy and Islamic Spirituality” (2005), “Al-Farabi Heritage and Modern Philosophy of Understanding” (2011), “Al Heritage -Farabi and the socio-humanitarian development of modern Kazakhstan”(2012), etc.

Al-Farabi Historical and Cultural Center, Damascus (Syria)
Abu Nasr al-Farabi died in 950 at the age of eighty years in the city of Damascus (Syria), where he was buried in the “cemetery of the kings” Bab-as-Sagir. In 2007, during his visit to Syria, The First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N. Nazarbayev signed an agreement with the Syrian government that Kazakhstan will build the al-Farabi Historical and Cultural Center in Damascus.

«Only in the conditions of independence, we were able to start studying and raising historical sources around the world. Today, we are reviving the memory of our great ancestor, who was born on the territory of Kazakhstan and became a great scientist, philosopher and poet here in the land of Syria», – N. Nazarbayev said at that time. In 2011 the construction of the six-story al-Farabi Center located on an area of 6 thousand square meters, was completed. The design of the building is made in a modern style, attracts the rich decoration of the memorial, well-thought infrastructure. The tomb of al-Farabi is located inside the complex.

«House of al-Farabi» Kazakh-Indian Scientific, Educational and Cultural Center, Delhi (India)
The opening of al-Farabi House is timed to celebrate al-Farabi’s 1150-th anniversary, to be celebrated under the auspices of UNESCO in 2020. The house is located in the diplomatic center of Delhi and will be the basis for cooperation between Kazakhstan and India in the field of science, education and culture.

In the House visitors will be able to get acquainted with unique information about the life and activities of the great thinker of the East Abu Nasr al-Farabi, the works of a scientist who has made a fundamental contribution to many fields of human knowledge. It is also possible to get acquainted with Kazakh culture, traditions and achievements of modern Kazakhstan.

Al-Farabi Eurasian Research Center, Istanbul (Turkey)
The Al-Farabi Eurasian Research Center was opened within at Istanbul University, one of the oldest top universities in Turkey. The center is designed to become a unique international platform for the implementation of joint research projects of scientists from Kazakhstan and Turkey in the field of humanities and natural sciences.

University of Rostock (Germany)
In 2014 a joint chemical laboratory was organized in the framework of cooperation of KazNU named after Al-Farabi and the University of Rostock (Germany) to conduct advanced research in the field of organic chemistry and catalysis. The laboratory is equipped with modern equipment, which allows research at a high level. The result of fruitful cooperation was about 30 scientific publications in journals with a high impact factor.

Ca’ Foscari University (Italy)
Ca’ Foscari University and al-Farabi KazNU signed an agreement on cooperation in exchange programs for teachers, students and employees of both institutions. The agreement also includes the development of joint educational initiatives, the organization of seminars and academic meetings.

Tsukuba University (Japan)
According to the memorandum of cooperation between KazNU named after Al-Farabi and Tsukuba University (Japan) “Campus on Campus Initiative”, each university provides its campus for a partner university to use research and educational resources. This project favors academic mobility and creates the conditions for the training of highly qualified specialists who are able to navigate the realities of a rapidly changing world.

Shanghai University of Foreign Languages (China)
KazNU named after Al-Farabi is actively integrating into the global scientific and educational space. The formation of the Department of Kazakh Language and Literature at Shanghai University of Foreign Languages will contribute to the popularization of Kazakh culture and language, strengthening good-neighborly and mutually beneficial relations between the two countries.

Scientific, educational and cultural Al-Farabi center, Sofia (Bulgaria)
The scientific, educational and cultural al-Farabi center was established on the basis of the oldest University in Bulgaria, St. Clement Ohrid University of Sofia. The center serves to increase the prestige of KazNU named after Al- Farabi in the European scientific and educational space, and is an intermediary for the exchange and dissemination of educational, research and cultural practices between Kazakhstan and Bulgaria.

Al-Farabi Scientific and Educational Center, Cairo (Egypt)
At the initiative of the rector of al-Farabi KazNU G. Mutanov in the University of Cairo was opened Scientific and Educational center of al-Farabi. The center serves as a platform for studying and promoting the heritage of al-Farabi. Cooperation includes programs for joint training of specialists, scientific internships for undergraduates and doctoral students, professional development of teachers, development of scientific and educational programs.

Scientific Center-Laboratory for Innovative Research, Karachi (Pakistan)
Cooperation with the Scientific Research Institute of Chemistry and the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences of the University of Karachi allows KazNU named after Al-Farabi to train highly qualified and competitive young personnel in Kazakhstan. The memorandum of cooperation provides for the implementation of joint research projects in the field of phytochemistry, biomedicine, the production of medicines and products based on plant materials.

«House of al-Farabi» Scientific, Educational and Cultural Center, Amman (Jordan)
The «House of al-Farabi» center will be established on the basis of the Jordanian State University. The cooperation agreement is aimed at developing academic mobility of teachers and students, implementing double degree programs and joint research projects.
